Old-school high contrast themes don’t use Aero and they’re only 2 KB in size. Great for multitasking – reducing the chances for errors and lags – makes working on your PC look and feel more classic. I created a few for personal use.

Create your own
- Right-click on the empty desktop and choose Personalize
- Click Window Color (which is between “Desktop Color” and “Sounds”)
- Set your colors and fonts of choice for the elements you like: They go from window elements, explorer colors to menu fonts and sizes.
- Click Apply every time you change something, so you don’t lose track.
- If you’re finished, end with Apply and OK.
- Your theme is now called “Unsaved theme“, you can see it right at the beginning of the theme list (top left).
- Click Save Theme and name it something.
- You can right-click the theme, save it to a location and share the file.
